What's even more frustrating is that I can't finish my works! You see, I can only do my sideline job at this time, that is at night or early morning. And I can only do this at home because its an hourly job and I have to be connected in the project's system which was downloaded in my computer. I can't complete anything because I can't connect to the internet! Well, I am connected to Sun Broadband's server but my connection has a speed of (on the average) 10kbps which cannot load any webpage! That's the fastest already. I even experienced an average speed of less than 5kbps (see image below).
Speed of below 5kbps for 6 minutes already
I even called up Sun Broadband's hotline just to make sure there's no connection problems in my area. Yes, there is no connection problem. I even joked that my internet connection always stops whenever an airplane passes by. The customer service representative told me that the connection has nothing to do with the airplanes. He even helped me configure some of my browser settings which I think doesn't have any relation to my internet connection. He just erased all the cache and history files. Acting dumb, I followed his instructions. Viola! Still slow connection until I already fell asleep.
With that, I got delays and pending works. True enough, my client got pissed. He cancels the job. An opportunity lost thanks to Sun Broadband. It was the second time already that he got frustrated because of my slow connection. We can't communicate properly. It does affect me and my reputation.
For more than a year, I am loyal to Sun Broadband. There maybe some congestions in their server due to increase in subscriber but I still patiently waited for them to fix it, hoping that it could get better. But I guess my patience reached its limit. I need a faster and reliable connection. Can anyone recommend one?
Weee, 5kbps? That's too slow sis! I'm using PLDT MyDSL internet connection. We have a fair internet connection where there were only two computer units sharing the connection. There are times I experience slow connection but it's pretty rare.
ReplyDeletePretty bad with your connection. You lost your job because of it. Sorry to hear that. You can subscribe in PLDT. I'm not sure with the payment every month because we just connected to internet for about 3-4 months and the bill is inconsistent. But as as I know we, subscribe the 1Mbps plus landline. I think 1299 a month including the phone bill.
I know. It really sucks. Yeah, I'm considering PLDT DSL. But I've already talked to a lot of their sales reps yet no one came to our house to check if our location is capable of DSL. Maybe I'll give them one last try.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion sis.
I've tried Smart Broadband and it s*cks big time... I'm currently using PLDT DSL and although there was a time when I had problem with connection but after one of their techs came and fixed it for us [oh and that's after several phone calls too], I've never had any problems anymore. I guess there's really no "reliable" internet connection here in the Philippines. We'll just have to choose the one which gives "lesser problems". :D good luck!
ReplyDelete^thanks for that. so its PLDT DSL so far..
ReplyDeleteI inquired from Globe WiMax awhile ago and they'll still check if my area is already WiMax capable. I also inquired from Sky broadband, unfortunately its not yet available in our area.
I'm gonna inquire from Smart later and PLDT.
even worse here, also a Sun broadband postpaid customer. i could connect to sun's network with very good signal, but there is no internet connection. started last sunday, already told customer service but still cannot connect to the internet. pretty sure modem and router works though, because i can use my globe sim on my Sun Huawei modem (since its unlocked), and connect to the internet with no problem at all. now i'm planning to switch provider, problem is, The Peregrinator is right, there's really no "reliable" internet service here. Unlucky us.
ReplyDelete^yeah unlucky for us. but now i'm getting a better internet connection after i bought a new laptop. i'm not sure if the connection has something to do with my laptop's system. no problem with the connection so far (about 3 weeks already).
ReplyDelete@tinapay - good to hear that connection's getting better in your location. we just got ours back last night. even Sun's business center in our area have had connection problems during the past few days, and they seemed to have no idea what caused it. anyway, i've just noticed that this blog is already more than a month old, so sorry for the very late post.
ReplyDelete^no problem. thanks for dropping by :)
ReplyDeleteI'm an online freelancer and I'm also using sun broadband. I also lost several jobs due to Sun's slow internet connection. :( Can anybody tell me if PLDT DSL is much better than SBW? I'm supposed to pay the PLDT's connection fee tomorrow but I'm still hesitant since sun is much cheaper. :)
ReplyDeleteim still using Sun Broadband now. the connection is more reliable now after i had my new laptop. i got pissed with customer service of PLDT DSL that's why i didn't push through with their service.
ReplyDeletewow, with all that bitchin' on sun because of your own fault... nice work ma'am for ruining the telco's reputation! Hands down!
ReplyDelete^thanks for your comment, anonymous. i hope you can identify yourself next time. i wonder how sun's connection be my fault?
ReplyDeleteAnd here's another interesting report about Sun's move to increase speed by reducing the resolution of the images.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.internetlivingathome.com/sun-broadband-internet-is-compressing-images
ReplyDeletei think sun broadband will be better after they had been bought by PLDT. *hoping*
ReplyDeletemay sbw rin ako palagi lumalabas error tapos may redial. may load pa naman yun
ReplyDeleteyou are not alone, tinapay... sun broadband really sucks! it's only fast at dawn, but once the sun's up, it become sluggish until late night.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you tinapay, here at project 6, with sun broadband you have to count up to 30 seconds before google comes up, that is if you are lucky because most of the times it does not open. imagine, google homepage na yun.
ReplyDeletebwisit ang sun...
ReplyDeleteThey are actually capable of providing great speeds BUT
they are throttling it.
How do i know?
Last night it tried out the sun SBW sim with free 5 hours just to test their service.
Plugged it in my HSDPA capable phone.
Tried downloading a 100mb file from a very fast fileserver.
I was suprised to see speeds approaching 344kbs!
But i was shocked to see speeds dropping to 0!
Stopping for a long time not picking up speed again.
Its a good thing the fileserver allowed pause and resume downloading.
I noticed that if i paused the download then resume the download it will work for 4 minutes then stop again so i kept doing that for the next 45 minutes.
I cant even leave the damn thing alone, binabantayan pa.
I dont think its a matter of spped, its a matter of throttling.
And to think non peak hours at 2am in the morning ko to ginawa.
Kaya yes thanks sun may prepaid kayo alam ko na anong klase service niyo.
i'm still using sun but i plugged the sim in a pocket wifi. speed is ok but now, i'm having problem with connections again. inconsistent. how can their tag line in tvc: consistent, fast and reliable be true?
ReplyDeleteBetter report to NTC.
To think na buti nga sa Pinas may unlimited surfing for such a low rate. Sa ibang bansa laging may usage limit at throttling. Best to go with the monopoly, PLDT. Since they own most of the towers and DSLAMs in the Phils.
ReplyDeletetinapay, ask ko lang kung ano ang sideline mo? baka pwede akong sumama dyan, nowadays kasi d kasya ang sweldo lang eh...pls..pls...tnx
ReplyDeletefreelance writer po :)
