Human (Heart) Nature Day and Night Moisturizer: A Review

If you could recall from my previous blog, I'm an avid user of Human Heart Nature products.  Their all natural, organic and proudly Filipino made products suits my skin very well.  Just last year and last month, I found another holy grail products from Human Heart Nature.

Having an acne prone and oily skin, I am careful on what I put on my face.  As mentioned in my previous blog post, I listed a few Human Heart Nature products applicable to this skin type.  This time, I am so happy to find a cheaper moisturizer good for my skin type.

I have tried the old formulation of both day and night moisturizer of Human Heart Nature.  I didn't like them as it felt quite thick on my face and it even adds oiliness to it.  This time, I took the risk of trying out first their Night moisturizer.  I thought, if the effect on my face will be the same as the old formulation, at least I'm just at home and about to sleep.  Although I've read in some of the reviews that the Night moisturizer is even best for oily skin.  I'm glad I did try it.  Aside from it is indeed good for oily skin, it even helped in combating my pimples.  I'm so happy! My holy grail!

Because of the nice effect of Night moisturizer, I took again the risk to try the Day moisturizer.  I've been using it for only about a month but I am loving it already.  It is also good for people with oily and acne prone skin.

Both Day and Night Moisturizer have a watery like consistency which makes it absorbed by the skin quickly, no greasy feel.  On the first few days of application though, you will feel that your face is perspiring easily.  I'm not sure why this happens but after your face get used to these, you won't get to experience it anymore.

Since it quickly absorbed by the skin, I sometimes tend to put much of it but still my face doesn't look greasy.  It feels moisturized all day and night.  What I really love about them, aside from I didn't breakout from it, the oiliness on my face is now at bay even until late in the afternoon.  I now seldom use oil control sheet to blot excess oils on my face.  My face feels supple and I know that my face is getting vitamins and minerals essential to keep it healthy.  What's more, the Day Moisturizer is much cheaper than the Cetaphil Moisturizer I previously used.

So if you have oily and acne prone skin and still struggling to find the right moisturizer, then I suggest you try this Day and Night Moisturizer from Human Heart Nature.

Stay beautiful!

Review: Adapalene vs. Tretinoin Cream

Following my previous blog on how to have a pimple free skin, I mentioned that Tretinoin Cream helps in clearing your face from pimples.  But I also mentioned that too much application of it makes your skin dry.  This what happened to me.  When I return back to my derma (well I don't frequently visit my derma :)), I told her that I noticed that my skin seems to be drying from the regimen she prescribes: Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser, Acne Toner and Tretinoin Cream.  So she replaced the acne toner with clarifying lotion and tretinoin cream with Adapelene Cream.  (I soon changed the clarifying lotion to Human Heart Nature's Balancing Toner.  You may read about it here.)

Now here's my comparison on Adapalene vs. Tretinoin Cream

Tretinoin Cream

Advantages:
  • Dries up pimples fast (as early as the following day)
  • Pus can easily come out (can be the following day of after a few days) for those who are experiencing almost cystic pimples
  • Less appearance and occurrence of pimples
  • Can make your skin smooth when applied all over the face
  • Effective even on blackheads, whiteheads and "butlig-butligs"
  • A bit cheaper than Adapelene
  • 1 jar/container can last for months to a year, depending on your application
Disadvantages:
  • Nightly application all over face can make your skin dry the next day even after applying moisturizer
  • May not be suitable to sensitive skin for all over face application (but spot application on the pimple are may be ok)
  • Micro-peeling can be a bit visible especially when you apply face powder during the day
  • The peeling on the pimple can be an annoying sight
  • Sting sensation may be felt on those sensitive parts like near the eye area due to the peeling effect
  • May be a bit greasy on the face, depending on your application
  • For this type of tretinoin cream, I can only buy this from the derma
Adapelene Cream

Advantages:
  • More gentle and not drying when applied all over the face
  • The micro-peeling effect will make your skin smoother, less visible pores (better than the peeling in tretinoin cream)
  • No visible peeling effect
  • Non-sting
  • Less appearance and occurrence of pimples
  • Non-greasy feel
  • Available in most drugstores
  • Somehow makes your skin fairer
Disadvantages:
  • I develop small whiteheads a few times on my first few days of application
  • Drying effect on pimple is not as early as next day
  • Small tube can last for about 3 months depending on application
  • More expensive

Personally, I prefer Adapelene as it makes my skin looks fairer and smoother with less visible pores.  However, since I have an acne prone skin, I wanted something that can eliminate my pimples "fast" (with "" as there is no really a very fast treatment in combating pimples) which I find it in tretinoin cream.  This is just too drying that I'm afraid I'll develop wrinkles quickly.  Also, I don't look as "radiant" as with using Adapelene maybe due to tretinoin's drying effect on my skin.

Right now, I'm maintaining my tretinoin cream but I just use it in moderation as it is really drying.  I use it every other night all over my face or I just spot apply on those pimples.

I find these creams really helpful in combating pimples.  But of course, everyone has different skin conditions so what maybe effective on me may not be effective on you.  I also read in some forums that some experience purging effect on the first few days of using Adapelene.

I also use this cream in combination with my other beauty regimen such as using oil control facial wash/toner and tea tree oil application on pimples.

I hope this helps to those who are continuously searching for products that will help them eliminate pimples.

Review: The Face Shop Color Control (CC) Cream

This is a long overdue post.  I acquire this product (directly from Korea) since August and its just now that I'm writing a review on it.  Well, here goes.

I really don't have any idea about CC cream or Color Control Cream before.  I previously tried BB cream and I liked it as it serves as a foundation, moisturizer, concealer and sunblock cream in one.  When CC cream came out, I initially don't get interested on it.  I was happy with my BB cream.  Through research, I learned that it will only make your skin looks flawless.  It also gives moisture to skin but it does not have any SPF.  Even with its moisturizing effect, some say that CC cream is also ideal for oily skin.  But unlike BB cream, it seems like it doesn't have much benefits.

Knowing the effects of CC cream, I somehow just wanted to try The Face Shop Color Control (CC) Cream, replacing my BB cream.  Well, I really stopped using BB cream months ago since it somehow makes my skin oily.  And besides, I already have separate moisturizers and sunblock ideal for my skin (you may refer to my blog about the products I use, here).  I chose The Face Shop's CC cream from other CC creams in the market as it is cheaper.  Although its price difference from Etude's CC cream is not that huge.

The Face Shop Color Color Cream has a unique opening.  Well, that's comparing to other creams, not necessarily the CC cream.  You need to lightly press down the sides of the jar as this will enable the liquid to pour out in the middle.  Hard pressing will instantly release more liquid.  The liquid is whitish in color but it sometimes have traces of natural or beige color.

Upon first application of CC cream, my face seems to be all white because of its color.  But I read that it will gradually blend to your skin color, thus the name Color Control Cream.  Instantly, my face seems flawless, although it does not provide coverage on my pimple marks.  It just makes my pores look smaller.  The flawless look lasted the whole day, during office hours, based from my experience.  What's best, I didn't get any breakout after application.

I read that CC cream can be used as a base before applying make up.  Some even use CC cream first then BB cream then their usual make up like powder or foundation.  As for me, after CC cream, I just add cream blush and lipstick.  Sometimes I apply face powder too just to set the blush.

Overall, I like The Face Shop Color Control Cream.  If you're on a budget and would like to try CC cream, then you may want to try this.

Products for Oily Skin

Having an oily skin could be a struggle.  You should watch out every products you put on your face, from facial wash, moisturizer and even up to make up.  Oily face can attribute to having acne breakouts which are common problems to most women.  Me, I have acne prone skin.  In my previous blog, I have enumerated some tips to have a pimple free skin.  This time, I will recommend products that will somehow help keep pimples at bay through minimize the oiliness of your face.  Of course there are a lot of factors affecting acne but having an oily (and unclean) skin initiates the appearance of it.  Through the years (and even until now), I still couldn't completely eliminate the appearance of acne on my face.  But gradually, I have discovered effective products for oily skin which somehow makes my skin behave and pimple free.  Read the products for oily skin I have used below which I personally use and find them effective in being oily free throughout the day.

Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser

When I first consulted a dermatologist, she recommends Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser as part of my regimen in cleaning my face.  I was happy to use this eversince.  The consistency is very light, almost like water yet a small amount can already thoroughly cleanse your face.  It's not bubbly or foamy so it comes in its purest form.  What's best, it does not dry your skin after every use.  Through months of use, I can say that this is really effective in minimizing oiliness of the face all throughout the day.  I have tried using this in combination with an acne toner and oil controlling toner which may also help in keeping my face shine free.  I use this twice daily.

Cetaphil Derma Control Oil Control Foam Wash

It seems that wherever I go, I no longer see Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser in the market.  Even in the USA and in Cetaphil's website, there's no longer oily skin cleanser but they have replaced it with Cetaphil Derma Control Oil Control Foam Wash.  So when I asked my relatives to buy Cetaphil moisturizer (to be discussed later) for me abroad, it comes with free Cetaphil Derma Control Oil Control Foam Wash which is very timely as my oily skin cleanser is already about to be empty.  This cleanser is different from the oily skin cleanser in terms of consistency.  As what the name implies, it is more foamy yet still light.  The foam is not like the foam you get from facial wash or soaps.  It is still like watery foam.  When applied to skin, you wouldn't see the foamy effect.  Again, I use this in combination with other products for oily skin which makes it more effective.  This product was also labeled to be specifically formulated for acne prone skin.  But for me, it does not seem to be effective in eliminating acne but it sure does help minimize oiliness on the face.

Human Heart Nature Balancing Face Toner

It is a struggle for me to find a toner that is not drying yet effective in minimizing oiliness on my face.  My derma initially prescribed an acne toner from them.  Though it does help in minimizing oiliness and appearance of acne on my face, it eventually seems drying.  Maybe the Tretinoin cream I use somehow affects the dryness of my face.  And so, my derma replaced it with a clarifying toner.  I find this just a cleanser, not really helping in keeping me shine free and pimple free.  So I tried Human Heart Nature Balancing Face Toner.  I have tried it before but I really didn't use it that long.  But now, after weeks of using it, I can see that my oiliness lessen.  I now seldom use my oil control sheet in keeping the shine away from my face.

Cetaphil Derma Control Oil Control Moisturizer

It is also a struggle for me to find the perfect moisturizer for acne and oily skin.  Before, I tried not to use a moisturizer as I don't want to make my face look shiny.  But then again, I know that moisturizer is essential in keeping my skin healthy.  Besides, I read that having a dry skin will just make your skin produce more oils to moisturize it.  I tried using water-based moisturizer such as Celeteque Dermo Science Facial Moisturizer.  It was ok but since I also experience drying out in some parts of my skin due to the Tretinoin cream I use, this moisturizer is not enough to give "moisture" on those dry areas.  My derma already prescribed me to use Cetaphil moisturizer but it was too expensive that's why I resorted to Celeteque as an alternative.  Because I wasn't too happy with Celeteque, I tried to use Cetaphil moisturizer.  From their website, they offer a lot of moisturizer but I chose the Cetaphil Derma Control Oil Control Moisturizer which is also formulated to be specifically for acne prone skin.  Since I still use Tretinoin cream at night from time to time, I needed a moisturizer that also serves as a sunblock or with SPF content.  This product is just perfect for it.  Initially, I thought this moisturizer is heavy due to its consistency similar to sunblock lotions.  But I was surprised that it was light and absorbs quickly by the skin.  I love how it does not make my face look oily or look liked I really applied a moisturizer immediately after using it.  Similar to the foam wash, I still can't seem to see its effect in minimizing or eliminating acne but it sure does help keep my face shine free.

Human Heart Nature Mineral Powder

I seldom apply make up.  I just put powder and lipstick then I'm good to go.  I find Human Heart Nature Mineral Powder helpful in keeping me shine free all day.  I already mentioned this in my previous blog.  And since I have acne prone skin, this powder does not give me breakouts even if I wasn't able to wash it off at night.  I've been a user of this products for almost 2 years already although I don't consistently use this but I always go back to this product.  And because of the different products I use to combat oiliness on my face, I need not to reapply Human Heart Nature Mineral Powder throughout the day.

So there, from cleanser to make up, I suggested these products for you to try if you have oily skin.  I'm just not sure if all of these products are available here in the Philippines especially those Cetaphil ones.  But if your budget permits, I highly recommend these products.  I don't have perfect skin now as pimples still appears on my face from time to time and I still have pimple marks but using these products have somehow keep my pimples at bay and lessen oiliness on my face.  Let me know if these are effective to you or maybe you can also share the products you use to help minimize oiliness of your face.

Genesis Super Salon by Louis Phillip Kee

The Genesis Super Salon by Louis Phillip Kee had its dry run opening last June 2.  They offer 40% off on all their services until today, June 9.  Since its the last day today to avail the discount, we expect it to be jammed packed.

Located along Dona Soledad Avenue in Better Living, Paranaque, it was indeed full of customers by the time we got there, about 4.30pm.  We waited about 30 minutes before my sister is called for her haircut.  I followed after her.  The haircut with shampoo and blow dry took about an hour.  The price for haircut is different for men, women and children. You may refer below for their pricelist.

My hair is long, about below the bra line at the back.  I planned to have it just trimmed, about an inch.  I'd like to maintain a long hair as this is what my boyfriend desires.  But after my sister's hair was done, I find her cut nice and stylish so I intend to copy her haircut.  It was a layered cut specifically on the sides and in front.  The back was just trimmed but a bit layered just to make it appear thin.  I requested for some bangs which the stylist made it a side swept cut.

My sister and I's stylist is John Kessel.  He has been a stylist fo Louis Phillip Kee's Salon for quite some time already.  He has a different style of cutting one's hair, well at least for me and my sister.  He let us stand while he cut the back of our hair.  I think this makes the cut accurate and even in case of the layered style.  This is unusual for me but I find it better as the cut was made with precision.  Besides, you wouldn't stand for so long or on the whole duration of cutting.

Our stylist

The hair shampooing and blow dry is also quite different.  Angel, who shampooed my hair, did a little massage on my hairline and scalp.  Most salons I've been to only massages the scalp.  The shampoo and conditioner they use does not have strong smell, just right.  After shampooing, I noticed that they do not have a wide tooth comb to untangle my hair.  But the great thing was they don't force your hair untanlge it which will cause hair breakage.  They instead use their fingers to gently untangle your hair, especially the ends.  They are also careful in blow drying your hair.  They don't pull hard your hair and the heat from the blow dry was just right.

My sister had a pedicure or more like cleaning of her toenails as she does not want a polish to be applied on it.  She enjoys this service as she didn't experience any pain unlike other salons who put much pressure in cleaning toenails which can be painful.  Original price of this cleaning is only Php 100 but my sister only paid Php 60 applying the 40% discount.

The design of Genesis Super Salon is just right, not too spacious and not too small.  There is a somewhat kitchen on the right side upon entering the salon.  We are told that it will soon be a cafe.  The receiving area only has one sofa.  So other customers sat on the "kitchen area" while waiting for their turn.  Magazines were provided but all were back issues as late as 2008.  At the back of the reception area was the hair cutting area.  Further to it was the mani-pedi, foot spa area.  There is stairs in the middle of the room which leads to the massage area and other services on the second floor.

I'm not sure if it just the last day but Mr. Louis Phillip Kee arrived at the salon to checked on the staff and customers.  He also helped out in blow drying, conversing with customers and even preparing the chair for the next customer.  He also provide guidelines to his staff on how to properly assist customers from the receiving area up to the time they leave the salon.  His guidelines, as I see on how he converse with his staff, were polite, not making them look stupid or scolding them in front of the customers.  He was there at around 6pm and was still there when we left at around 8.30pm.  I guess he will stay there until the salon closes.

Overall, I would love to go back to this salon and try their other services.  I was happy with my haircut so as my sister.  She also likes her pedicure.  i would like to try mani-pedi-foot spa package and relaxing my hair next time.  The staff were all nice, and no hard selling for the services they offer.  Prices for their services were quite reasonable.  We were told by the receptionist that they will have another discount on their grand opening sometime in July.  I will definitely watch out for that.

Human Heart Nature: Reviews on Products I Love

I've been a dealer of Human (Heart)Nature since 2011. Most of the time, I use it for personal consumption but I also offer it to my family and friends. It's a good business since the capital is only small at the same time you get to use an environment friendly product. Well, my post is not about the business side of Human (Heart) Nature, but about my reviews on their products which I patronize and truly love.

Natural Intensive Hair Mask
I wear my hair long for more than 4 years already. So it's important that I make them look healthy, straight, soft and shiny. I frequently have my hair relaxed about twice a year. With this chemically treated hair, I need products that could prevent my hair from further damage while still keeping it straight and soft. That's when I found Human (Heart) Nature's hair mask. They have two variants: rosemary and jasmine scent. I tried them both but i most fell in love with the jasmine scent.

I use the mask once a week. After shampooing, I applied the mask after instead of the conditioner. My friend, on the other hand, still uses conditioner after shampooing then hair mask as the last routine. Both procedure still gets awesome result. When I use hair mask, I let it stay on my hair for about 5 mins. with shower cap to cover it. I know someone she let the mask stay on her hair for more than 30 mins. and her hair becomes brittle afterwards. So i guess it would be better to let it stay on your hair not more than 5 minutes. Immediately after shower, your hair gets easier to comb. When it dries, your hair will become super soft! With the jasmine scent, your hair smells good longer even the following day. Sometimes even after you have already taken a shower the next stay, you can still smell the hair mask.

Natural Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner
Human (Heart) Nature used to have a Nourishing line of shampoo and conditioner. This is what I often buy from them. When it phased out, I switch to Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner in mandarin scent. It was ok and it smells good but I didn't quite get a soft feel on my hair. So I tried their Strengthening variant, which later on I like better than Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I will relate that later.

But recently, Human (Heart) Nature released a new scent, lush vanilla. I tried this on both shampoo and conditioner. Just like their previous shampoos, you cannot use it alone or without conditioner or else your hair will become frizzy. But I love the vanilla scent, smells like candy than vanilla but not too sweet. Using both shampoo and conditioner, it makes my hair soft and smells nice although the smell won't last long.

Natural Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner
If you have hair fall, I highly recommend this product. I was totally amazed with it. Normally during bath time, once you get your hair wet and started shampooing, you will definitely get hair fall maybe 3 strands or more. But with Human (Heart) Nature's strenghtening line, you will never have any hair fall! Well, maybe just one strand but only one all through out your bath time! It's really amazing! This shampoo also helps relieve itchiness in your hair.

The strengthening shampoo comes in two scents: Cool Peppermint and Soothing Aloe.  Soothing Aloe is the newer scent.  What I tried before was the cool peppermint which I liked better than the Mandarin scent of the Moisturizing Shampoo line.  Because of its coolness to your hair, it really does minimizes itchiness.  The strengthening conditioner, however, only comes in soothing aloe scent.  I haven't tried this yet.

Natural Smoothing Hair Serum
I don't believe in hair serums. Yea it will tame your frizzy hair but most of the time it will also mke your hair looks oily. But not with Human (Heart) Nature's hair serum. But of course if you applied more, it will make your hair oily. So its best to apply just enough depending on your hair length. Besides, a little goes a long long way.

I super love this product. I applied it everyday when my hair is already dry. It tames frizzes and it will make your hair looks soft, straight and shiny. What's more, I get a lot of compliments from people asking if I had my hair rebonded. That's how straight it looks! Thanks to this serum.

Natural Mineral Powder
I've read before that mineral make ups are good for the skin.  I had those from other brands but since I don't usually apply make up, face powder and lipstick are just my made up look.  So when Human (Heart) Nature came up with mineral make up collection, I immediately tried their mineral powder.  Aside from it is good to the since, it is also environment friendly because of its all natural ingredients.

Human (Heart) Nature Mineral Poweder have 4 variants: Orient Pearl, Island Shell, Sand Dollar and Boracay Bronze.  I first tried Sand Dollar but I find it too dark for me.  So then I tried Island Shell, it suits my skin better.  I like the coverage and staying power.  Usually I just reapply after about 5-6 hours even if I have a very oily skin.  It is not heavy on the face and instantly you will get a fresh look.  I have an acne prone skin so I seldom apply make up or even face powder so that my skin won't get breakouts.  But with this mineral powder, I don't get any breakouts even if I don't wash it off at night (if sometimes I immediately fell asleep coming home from work).

Natural Mineral Blush
Similar to Mineral Powder, the mineral blush is good for the skin because of its "mineral" and all natural properties.  The blush has4 variants: Tropical Rose, Petal Bloom, Pink Quartz and Rosy Cheeks.  I tried the Tropical Rose, the darker amongst all shades.  My sister tried Rosy Cheeks and it was too light for her.  That's why I chose the darker shade.  I like the Tropical Rose shade, although upon first application, you might thought that its too red but later on it will lighten.  The time I use this, I had pimple marks on my cheek bones.  This mineral blush somehow helped in hiding it.  And again, since it is mineral, I also didn't experience any breakouts.

Sunflower Beauty Oil
This is said to be the miracle oil to those who have tried it.  Sunflower oil is known to lighten skin.  So people often use it to lighten their pimple marks, under eye area, underarm, and even bikini area.  And most of the users get positive result.  Others also use this as moisturizer, applied to the face and lips.  For frequent smokers, using Human (Heart) Nature's Sunflower Beauty Oil also helps lighten their lips.

As for me, I use this Sunflower Beauty Oil under my eye area and pimple marks to whiten them.  Well, I really don't have dark circles around my eyes, I just want to prevent them from darkening.  Some also claimed that when this oil is put around their eyes, there's a tendency for your lashes to get longer.  I haven't noticed that maybe because I only put it under my eyes.  Putting too much of this on my eyes makes it look sleepy and tired.  As for the pimple marks, this beauty oil has really been helpful.  Since I have an acne prone skin, having pimple marks is no longer new to me.  With this oil, applied twice daily (morning and night), I get the whitening/lightening result in 3 to 4 weeks.  You can also use this to lighten insect bites.

Natural Purifying Facial Scrub
This Human (Heart) Nature Purifying Facial Scrub is their (quite) new variant.  Before, their facial scrub use to be super fruits and black rice grain.  Now, it has strawberry seeds and bamboo granules.  The old formulation was coarser and a little bit bigger grains than this new formulation.  Honestly, I like the old formulation than this one.  Maybe because I feel the bigger and coarser grains can be more effective in removing deep seated dirt.

Anyway, this new formulation of Purifying Facial Scrub is still likeable.  I never look for any brands other than Human Nature.  For those who have sensitive skin, this new formulation is much better for them since the beads are not too coarse.  As for me, though I don't have sensitive skin, it is still gentle even if I have pimples.  It doesn't aggravate the pimples.  As for lightening the pimple marks, I'm not sure if this has been helpful since I only use this every other day and I'm also using the (miracle) Sunflower Beauty Oil.  A dab of this facial scrub can already produce enough beads for the whole face.  It is also unscented so its really gentle on the skin.

Natural Lip Balms
I love Human (Heart) Nature's lip balms.  I have dry lips and it always chap.  This lip balm helps me prevent my lips from chapping.  What's more, it stays on the whole day!  Just reapply when you wash your mouth or has been washed off through drinking liquids.  I also sometimes use this before I sleep and my lips are just soft.

The Human (Heart) Nature Natural Lip Balm comes in 4 variants: Wild Berry, Tutti Frutti, Choco Fudge and Peppermint.  I tried the Tutti Frutti and Peppermint.

Natural Hand and Foot Salve
This is another great product.  For those of you who applies petroleum jelly to your feet and ankles then putting on socks during bedtime, then this product is for you.  It is all natural yet you get the same softness on your feet when you wake up.  I like better their new packaging which now comes in tube unlike before when it is used be on a tub.  With this new packaging, it becomes more handy.

The Human (Heart) Nature Natural Hand and Foot Salve comes in 2 variants: Eucalyptus and Strawberry.  I didn't like the Eucalyptus from the old packaging.  I always bought the Banana scent, which was already phased out.  I haven't tried the Strawberry scent yet but I will definitely buy this product again.  As I've mentioned, with this new packaging, it is more handy and travel friendly so you can reapply on your hands (or even feet) when it feels dry.  I most especially love the softness of my feet when I apply this at night.  Their website suggest putting socks on after application.  But for me, you really don't need that and yet your feet will still feel soft.  The only downside, for me, on this product is that it does not quickly absorbed by your skin.  Your hands may seem oily after applying it.  But later on it will fade.  So sometimes, it can feel a bit heavy on the skin.  But nonetheless, you are only applying it on your hands and feet so that's not really a big issue for me.  I sometimes apply it on my legs when it gets dry on cold days.

Natural Healthy Lotion
My skin is naturally dry (is there such term? haha!).  I never go out of our house without applying lotion all over my body.  I'm very picky when it comes to lotions.  I want a lotion that can, of course, moisturize my skin for 24 hours.  Also, it shouldn't be sticky on the skin or it should easily be absorbed by the skin.  It will be a plus if it smells good.  I found all these in Human (Heart) Nature Healthy Lotion.  I tried their previous scent and I didn't like it.  Although it was non greasy, it doesn't give me 24 hours moisturization.  Good thing they came out with a new variant: Berry Bliss and Vanilla Delight.  I tried them both and I love them.  Although Vanilla Delight is more lighter in terms of fragrance.  Both gives long lasting moisturization and it doesn't feel greasy.

Natural Feminine Wash
Human (Heart) Nature's feminine wash is, I think, another brilliant product they produced since it's all natural and environment friendly.  I never thought that cleaning our intimate areas can be made using all natural ingredients.  Since the area is susceptible to infections, the cleaning agent should have powerful ingredient to combat bacteria.  So when Human (Heart) Nature launched this product, I never hesitate to try it.

Their feminine wash has a new packaging and additional variant, the Chamomile Cool.  I tried both scents.  The Chamomile Cool resembles PH Care's Cool Wind but the former has a more cooling feeling than the latter.  I liked both scent but I prefer the Chamomile Fresh.  One thing I dislike about this product is that, I feel that it lacks protection during "those days".  Maybe because of its "delicate" or all natural properties, I feel that I am not protected during those times in terms of odor and bacterial protection.  But for everyday use, this feminine wash is ok.  Nevertheless, I still use this at any situation or given days.  I just frequently wash during "those days".

Natural Spray Sanitizer
Before, Human (Heart) Nature only have pump type of hand sanitizer.  Good thing they came out with this spray sanitizer.  I find this more convenient and very handy.  Not only it sanitizes your hands, it can also sanitize your surroundings.

Their spray sanitizer comes in 3 variants: Citrus Burst, Tropical Burst and Juicy Burst.  I tried all variants but I prefer the Citrus Burst better.  I least prefer the Tropical Burst.  I can't understand the scent.  All 3 variants, however keeps your hands clean without drying it.  I frequent use this because I know my hands will be germ free.  The only problem with spray type is that you cannot control the outpour of the liquid from the bottle and so it can be too much for your consumption.

There are a lot of Human (Heart) Nature products that I've tried but I no longer post them here.  These are just amongst my favorites.  The others that I've tried are less favorite and I never bought them again (e.g. mineral lipstick, old formulation).  Maybe I'll try to blog about those products with not so satisfactory result.

By the way, if you noticed, I always have parenthesis () on the word heart.  I know that the true name of this product is Human Nature but it seems some people are used to calling this Human Heart Nature with the shape of heart in between the words human and nature.  I, myself, used to calling it HHN, abbreviation for Human Heart Nature.  I know some of you will agree. :)

My 2012: A Review On The Year That Was

Looking back to the year 2012, I can say it was fulfilling and exciting than the year 2011.  But if I categorized each event of my life, there are pros and cons to the year 2012 as compared to my 2011.

Beach Trips
Since I love the beach, I see to it that I get to visit at least one beach per year.  But that's too little.  It is seldom that I only get to the beach once per year.  The most beach trip I had was I think year 2010.  That's where I get to visit Ilocos, Coron, Puerto Princesa, Davao and Camarines Norte (Calaguas Island) for the first time.  For 2011, I get to visit the beaches in Quezon (Dampalitan Beach, Borawan; unfinished blog) and Zambales (Magalawa Island) plus I get to trek again in Mt. Romelo where we visited the Buruwisan Falls.  It was also the same year where I traveled solo in Davao, mostly work related but I get to visit some parks and malls.  Last year, I only visited two new beaches: in Bolinao, Pangasinan and in Lobo, Batangas.  The rest of my beach trips were just revisits.  I get to visit Davao again on my own, this time I stayed longer and had a relaxing vacation (unfinished blog).  It was unusual for me to visit a beach twice in a year.  Last year, I get to visit Anvaya Cove in Bataan, Samal Island in Davao and Boracay Island twice.

Other Travels
2011 was when I first get to travel outside of the Philippines.  I get to visit Taiwan and Hong Kong for the first time.  Last year, I revisited Hong Kong with my family and also get a side trip to Macau (unfinished blog).  But it was the same year when I traveled almost every month, whether it be like a 2-hour drive away from Manila or a 2-hour air travel from Manila.

This 2013, I hope to visit Singapore or Thailand.  I plan to have at least one international trip per year.  For the beach trip, I'm hoping to visit El Nido, Surigao and revisit Calaguas Island and Cebu beaches.

Work
I was promoted in 2011.  The same year, work loads were a lot compared to 2012 since I was still part of the event committee for our group where we organized team building, christmas party and vendor's night.  In 2012, my work were more challenging and I get to travel out of town (Subic and Davao) because of my work.  Since our company is continuously growing, I'm expecting more work loads this 2013.  I'm hoping that I'll continue to do better and excel even more in my line of work.

Family
There's no other wonderful time spent than with your family.  2012 was such a blessing to my family since we get to be complete during the holidays.  It was the first time my brother spent Christmas and New Year with us after 6 years.  Although his job gave him at least 2 months vacation in the Philippines, there's always a slim chance for him in spending Christmas holidays in the Philippines.  Last 2011, my sister gets to stay here in the Philippines for good.  But my other sister then got a job opportunity to work abroad in year 2010 so she wasn't able to join us during 2011 Christmas season.  Thus, our family were incomplete then.  Last year, my other sister resigned from her work abroad and decided to stay here instead.  She came back last November while my brother came home last October.

Love
In 2011, I can say that I'm not 100% ready to commit yet.  Although I'm dating, I haven't found someone whom I think will be my match.  But last year, I found him.  That time, I know I'm ready for commitment.  We've been together now for 7 months.  Hopefully our relationship will last.  Because of this, I'm happier now on the matters of the heart than last 2011.

Friends
Last 2011, one of my best friends went to California and stayed there for good.  Good thing, we're still keeping in touch.  The same year, a few of my friends got married.  In 2012, additional friends got married.  And those friends who got married in 2011 already become parents.  I had additional 2 goddaughters last year.  Funny thing is that both have the same birthdays! So I don't know how I'll split by body to attend their birthdays in case both celebrated it at the same date.

In the year 2012, I also get to meet more new friends.  I tried to acquaint with few bloggers but I haven't meet them personally.  Other new friends were mainly my boyfriend's friends.  I get to meet and bond with them thrice last year.

Health, Beauty and Fashioin
Just like in the previous years, I'm still the same shopaholic!  But last year, I get to spend mostly on sale items.  With that, I get to save more in 2012 than in 2011.  In terms of my health, luckily I don't have that much sickness in 2012 than in 2011.  I also tried eating healthy last year but I know I wasn't really successful on that.  In terms of beauty, I noticed that I seldom apply make up and buy make up products in 2012 as compared to 2011.  Maybe because I tend to focus on eliminating pimples last year, which I believe was somehow successful.

This 2013, I'm hoping to eat more healthy foods, exercise regularly (meaning going back to the gym to eliminate fats on my tummy!) and keep my skin healthy and pimple free.

Passion
I'm passionate about writing.  I started blogging last 2011.  I've got a total of 65 blogs for the year 2011 while only 45 total blogs for the  year 2012.  I admit that I seldom write blogs last year.  My average was just 1 blog per month.  I become busy most especially when I already have a love life *teehee*  My free time was spent with him since we only get to see on weekends.  Also, my writing jobs were less last year than in year 2011.  I no longer get to apply for writing jobs last year.  I'm hoping that this year, I still continue writing and updating my blog.  Most especially when I know that my blog can somehow help people get tips and information.  I hope I can write anything blog-worthy at least 1 every week or 2-3 blogs per month.

Overall, I'm still happy and content with my 2012 even if some events were better in 2011 than in 2012.  Just like in the previous years, I'm grateful for a wonderful 2012, most especially my family is complete and I had a love of my life.  Life is more meaningful if spent with people you love.  Those were great blessings I've received which were abundant and beyond happiness.  I hope it will still be the same for 2013 or even better.

Thank you for being part of my 2012.  Thank you also for your time to visit and read my blogs.  I hope you continue to do so this year and in the coming years.  Cheers for the 2013!

How To Have A Pimple Free Skin

Pimples are unsightly conditions on anyone's face.  It leaves insecurities and lack of confidence to anyone who are prone to it.  There are many factors affecting the eruption of pimples in one's face.  One of which is hereditary.  There is nothing you can do about it.  If your parents are prone to pimples, there's a big chance you'll be like that too.  But you do not need to lose hope.  You can prevent the appearance of pimples or at least minimize its eruption.
There are a lot of available over the counter medicines and topical solutions that you can try to prevent pimples.  However, how would you know which one is effective for you?  Even if a product have a high positive feedbacks, it does not guarantee hundred percent to be effective on you since everyone have different skin conditions.
I have a very pimple prone face because I have a combination skin: oily on the T-zone area and dry on the other parts.  Like anyone else, I have tried a lot of topical solutions and did self medicate to combat the eruption of pimples on my face.  However, nothing seems to last.  My face has a tendency of getting immune to one product too soon.  It can be effective for one to two weeks but after that, pimples keep coming back.
But just this year, I finally kept my pimples at bay.  With that, I will share with you some of my personal tips in achieving a pimple free skin.  Read on to know how.

CLEANSE, TONE and MOISTURIZE

I know you have read this simple steps so many times.  Just recently, I realized that it is indeed effective.  I noticed that whenever I fail to wash my face before going to sleep, there's a big chance I'll have a pimple the next day or in the coming days.  Since then, even if I'm already tired and sleepy, I see to it that I still wash my face to get rid of the oiliness and dirt I got from outside pollution.  For oily skin, it is best to use a cleanser that is suitable for oily skin.  I'm using Cetaphil Cleanser for oily skin.  If I fail to wash my face, I tried my best to at least apply toner to clean it.  Toners are like the final cleansing agent that takes away traces of dirt and residue that soaps/cleansers leave behind.  Of course after the toner, you need a good moisturizer.  Cleaning with soap and toning your face can make your skin dry that's why moisturizer is a must as a final touch.  For oily prone skin like mine, a water-based moisturizer is better option, most especially at day time.  It will make your face a little less oily with this type of moisturizer.

SUNBLOCK

This is one product that most people disregard as an essential part of everyday regimen.  Even if the weather is cloudy or even if you'll be staying indoors most of the time, it is still essential to apply a sunblock.  Once you step out of your house, sun's rays are already penetrating through the clouds down to your skin.  For oily skin, it is suitable to find a water-based sunblock.  I got mine from a dermatology clinic.

TRETINOIN

Tretinoin is famous for treating pimples or for the more severe ones, acne.  There are a lot of topical solutions that have tretinoin content as its main ingredient.  Although this must be used with precaution as it can be drying to the skin, it is effective in clearing your face with pimples.  Some apply it all over the face while some apply it only as spot treatment to pimples.  Thin application will be enough especially if you have sensitive skin.  The tretinoin I've been using came from a dermatology clinic.  I'm applying it all over my face every other night.  After applying tretinoin, it is best to follow it up with a moisturizer to minimize the dryness on your face.  Also, when you're on tretinoin treatment, it is a must to apply sunblock at day time then a water-based moisturizer after.

TETRALYSAL

When a dermatologist get to checked on my face, she prescribed me with an antibiotic called Tetralysal.  She prescribed me to take it everyday for 3 months.  For me, it was really effective.  The appearance of pimples on my face lessen and they seldom occur even if I fail to wash my face at night.  Most especially, cystic pimples were no longer present.  Knowing it is an antibiotic, I stopped taking it after 3 months.  Unfortunately, pimples, even cystic ones, came back.  I read through research that that is one of the side effects of Tetralysal.  Pimples will really come back or even worsen once you stopped taking Tetralysal.  So I consulted again the dermatologist.  She told me that it is ok to continue taking Tetralysal to prevent pimples from coming back.  So I followed her again but I did a little modification.  After 3 months, I took the medicine every other day instead of everyday.  With this regimen, my pimples were still at bay.

ACNE CREAM

For spot application and quick fix solution to cystic or just erupting pimples, I spot apply acne cream on it.  The cream came from the dermatology clinic but I find benzoyl peroxide creams (5% concentration or less) to be effective as well in drying up pimples fast.  The only disadvantage of this is that it can leave pimples marks after the pimple has dried up.  I read that the brand Benzac AC contains benzoyl peroxide but does not leave pimple marks afterwards.  Same goes with Tea Tree Oil.  Tea tree oil is another effective spot application treatment to pimples without leaving any marks afterwards.  But in my experience, tea tree oil takes longer to effect in minimizing the redness and swelling of pimples than in benzoyl peroxide cream.

GARLIC

Yes, you read that right.  Garlic.  It is one of the most effective home remedy in treating pimples.  I have tried that myself when I do not have the acne cream yet.  Garlic have antibacterial properties that makes it effective in clearing out pimples.  The juice in the garlic is the one that can make your pimples go away.  The effect is fast even for cystic ones.  If you apply it at night, the next day, the pimple size will be significally reduced.  But be cautious in applying garlic on your face as it may sting and makes your face red, especially if you have sensitive skin (I wouldn't recommend that).  Garlic can also be crushed so you can chew.  It's effect is like taking an oral antibiotic, similar to Tetralysal.

FACIAL SCRUBS

Regular application of scrubs (whether for the face or body) helps remove dead skin cells to reveal a new, younger looking skin.  By regular, it does not necessarily mean everyday as it may make your skin thinner.  My regimen is to at least scrub my face/body at least 3 times a week.  I'm using an organic facial scrub from Human Heart Nature.  The beads from the facial scrub are not too coarse when applied to skin and yet it does leave a smooth and clean feeling.  Regular facial scrub is beneficial in minimizing pimple marks.  It is not recommended to scrub your face if you have an inflammed pimple as it can aggravate and worsen it.

HYDRATE AND MOISTURIZE

I'd like to reiterate again that even if you have oily skin, you still need to hydrate and moisturize your face.  A dry skin makes your oil glands produce more oils thus prone to clogging of pores which will result to appearance of pimple.  A water-based moisturizer is best for oily face as it is not too thick and creamy which makes skin look more oily.  I'm using Celeteque facial water-based moisturizer for my oily skin.  Another way to keep your skin hydrated is by taking lots of water.  8 glasses of water will work wonders as it helps regulate your system to flush away toxins from your body.
There are many other pimple fighting regimen and products such as apple cider vinegar, erythromycin solution, etc. but the ones I have mentioned above were the most effective for me.  I've been pimple free (though not yet flawless skin) for the last 8 months.  And good thing, my face does not get immune with these regimen.

My Sale Finds: SM Supermarket

Who says you can only get bargains from clothes shop? Last week, when I was doing my groceries at SM Supermarket in Makati, I almost got a 50% off on a laundry item. I was browsing through the laundry/detergent powder rack specifically along Surf brand. I'm not really fond of Surf powder but eversince we've tried it about a month ago, I have been buying their detergent powder for the laundry. I just forgot which variant was the suitable type for our needs. I'm the type that tries all variants before patronizing one kind. I was about to pick the violet color of Surf freshness petals powder (relaxing lavander scent) when I saw that the yellow color variant (sun fresh scent) was cheaper. 800 grams was enough for us for 2-week use. It cost only 77 pesos as compared to the violet which is around 5-10 pesos higher. Then the promo girl started explaining about the Surf powder variants, how I can save better if I buy the bigger size (about 2 kilos) and which are on sale. Since I was looking at the yellow variant, she mentioned that the big size is on sale from Php 169 to just Php 141. Plus she told me that I can get a free item when I buy it. Without hesitation, I did bought it. And this is what I got as a freebie...

I'm not sure how much this cost but this is not an ordinary conditioner.  This is Sunsilk's Strong and Long treatment conditioner.  I'm thinking this cost about Php 140.  Almost a buy one take one treat when you buy big size of the Surf Freshness Petals! A really sale finds!

Sparkle review

I finally availed the Sparkle service I bought from Metrodeal. The voucher includes Japanese hot oil, hand and foot srub and reflexology. According to the deal, the whole service is originally valued at Php 800 and will last for 60 minutes. Here's my review.

When I arrived at the spa, there's a lady who also availed the deal (i only noticed it when we were seated side by side) and she almost had her hair done that is all wrapped with foil. No electronic heat was put on her head for the hot oil. The staff is already preparing for her scrub when another staff called me to wash my hair.

After washing, the staff put on some mask or conditioner like on my hair. While applying with bare hands, she also massages my scalp and head which is good. When applying and massaging is done, she wrapped my hair with a foil and secure it with a towel-like band around my hairline. By this time, the lady customer beside me had her scrubs on her hands done. She was a little ahead of me on all of these services.

The next thing the staff did to me was applying some essential oil on both my arms and hands. Later, a scrub was applied. Same procedure was applied on both my legs and feet. The scrubs were kinda coarse. I felt uneasy when the staff rubbed the scrub on my arms and legs hard especially to those sensitive skin areas. I thought I had a skin scratch with it.

These srubs were removed by the staff with water and sponge. After it was removed, the staff started massaging my arms and hands. I guess this is the reflexology part. The massage was a little hard, making my fingers "crack" which I didn't like. When my arms were done, the staff started massaging my legs and feet. Most of the massages were at my sole. Pinching and pressing my sole, fingers and legs. I thought these will be very relaxing if you have tired lefs an feet. As for me, again, it was kinda painful. Well maybe because I'm not fond of massages. And also, I wasn't tired that day so my muscles were not stiff. There were even times that I already exclaimed painfulness to the staff so she can lighten the massages.

When all this massages are done, the staff then rinses my hair. Afterwhich, my hair was swiftly dried with a blower. The staff didn't comb or used a brush while drying my hair. She just gently scan my wet hair with her fingers to dry it. I like this technique in drying my hair. While blow drying, the lady customer was at that time was just gettig ready to rinse her hair.

When my hair was dried, the staff gently combs my hair. Surprisingly, there were no tangles. My hair was all straight as if I had it relaxed. I love the effect on my hair. It was soft to touh too.

You will noticed that I keep on mentioning the lady customer. Well, it is because she were ahead of me to undergone the treatment and all but still i'm the one who finished it first. It took me less than an hour to finish but I guess that will be dependent on the staff who is taking care of you.

Overall, I give the whole experience a rating of 7 out of 10 (10 being the highest). I like the Japanese hot oil on my hair. I like the srubs but it would be better if the staff won't rub it hard on your skin. I didn't like the massages simply because I'm not fond of massages. It's painful on my part. But I think that kind of massage will be very relaxing after a tiring day. The deal at Php 149 discounted price was all worth it. But if it returned to its original price of Php 800, I find it expensive. The Japanese hot oil has a good effect on my hair but it seems the same effect when I use Human Heart Nature's Hair Mask. As for the massages and scrubs, I can't comment further on the price as I haven't done same service from other salon. Should I go back there? Well yes, but mostly for hair treatments and mani/pedi or foot spa service. Nothing more than that. Will I recommend it? Yes, especially if you are fond of massages. The staff are friendly too. They're also giving recommendations without really hard selling their products and services.

Me Time at Sparkle and David's Salon

When I saw this pampering coupon in Metrodeal at Sparkle Hair Rebonding Treatment Center and Spa, I immediately got interested since its associated with hair pampering.  Since I haven't got back to relaxing my hair at Fix salon, maybe a hot oil will do for the meantime just to keep my hair straight.  Another interesting item in the deal is the hand and foot scrub.  I'd like my feet to be pampered as this is often times neglected.  I don't get to moisturize my feet as often as I want unlike with my with hands which are more exposed.  What's more interesting on the deal is that its location is very near to our home.

I called up and inquired about the deal as well as the services they offer.  The person I talked to told me that I can buy the Metrodeal coupon in their spa and immediately avail the services immediately even if it states there that it can be used starting May 2. Since the deal is only Php 149, I checked also the other services they're offering.  I thought of adding any foot pampering including pedicure.  Sparkle's website describes all the services and packages they offer.  Each of their service has detailed description with estimated time to finish each service.  Although price is not indicated, the description seems inviting.  That's why I decided to visit Sparkle late in the afternoon that day to avail the coupon as well as get a pedicure.  By the way, the person I talked to informed me that I should have reservations first before I avail any of their service but she also told me that I can just drop by later and just tell the receptionist her name, Grace.

When I arrived, the receptionist told me that the coupon can only be availed starting May 2.  Grace was wrong on that aspect.  And she's no owner or manager of the place.  She's one of the staff / personnel who does the services to you.  She was performing foot spa to one client when I arrived.  Maybe its somewhat commission based if I go directly to her that's why she told me to look for her.  Anyway, I thought I can already have my hot oil treatment done.  Nevertheless, I still bought one coupon and availed their pedicure service at Php 175.  I'm not sure if this is cheap or expensive as I have never had pedicure before.  Yes, my feet are still virgin in that aspect.  It's me who does the cleaning of my toenails and putting on nail polish to it.  So this time, I'll try others to do it on my behalf to make my feet cleaner.  I'd like to have a foot spa along with the pedicure but I decided, since I'm not yet familiar with this spa, I'll just try first their pedicure.

I'm kinda ticklish person so when the staff, Jovie (I think), started cleaning my foot, I felt uneasy but I didn't let her notice it.  She cut my toenails, applied cuticle remover and start cleaning my foot.  Her hands were quite light as I didn't experience any discomfort while she's doing my feet.  What I didn't like was when she applied nail polish and some gets out of the nails, she uses her nails directly to my skin to remove it.  I hope she used cotton instead.  But overall, my first time experience in pedicure is somehow nice and not a nightmare.  I would definitely go back there and have my nails done.

Since I wasn't able to have a hot oil treatment, I then decided to trim my hair since the ends are already getting dry.  I visit the David's Salon, just within the area of Sparkle.  I had my hair cut there before and it was ok.  So I thought, since I'll just have it trimmed, it won't be disastrous to my hair.  My second time experience with them in terms of hair cutting and blow drying is ok.  I just didn't like the blow drying of my hair this time.  The staff wasn't too careful in pulling my hair that it seems kinda painful but tolerable.  I'm just worried that it might give too much damage to my hair.  Although the stylist told me that my hair isn't that dry but it lacks shine.  She's offering me to have hair spa at Php 600+  with hair cut already.  Aww.. it was already too late.  I'm willing to get hair spa but she's already cutting my hair when she told me that.  She just advised me to have my hair treated at least every month.  And yes, I plan to do that.  Nevertheless, my overall hair cut experience with them was ok.  Not exceptional though.  Well maybe because I just had my hair trimmed.

It's really nice to have this me time although its not that much done on me today.  Maybe next time I'll try other services in Sparkle (manicure and some of their body and hair treatment and facial) and David's Salon (hot oil or hair spa).  My hair is relaxed but I only entrust Fix Salon to do that.  It's been over a year already since I had my hair relaxed but thank God it isn't all that frizzy at this time.  I just wonder how to get shinier hair.  Any tips?
